BMR and Weight Loss

The metabolism is the most important component of weight loss program, controlling the body weight and being healthier for life. Knowing the metabolism functions is necessary as metabolism manipulates the calorie burning on regular basis. The various factors that affect the metabolic rate and the definition of metabolism are worth evaluating. According to the American heritage dictionary, metabolism is the chemical process that occurs within the living cells or organism that are essential for maintaining the life. Several elements are broken down in metabolism for obtaining energy for essential functions while other elements, necessary for life are synthesized. Its definition however, basically states that the cells need the energy for carrying out the basic activities of life. The rate that we utilize the energy for carrying out such basic functions is medically known as the Basal Metabolic Rate-BMR.

The BMR is the complete calories needed for doing things like digestion of foods, breathing, and circulation of blood, reproduce as well as all the other regular functions that the body performs for maintaining itself. BMR defers from individual to individual and usually accounts for the optimal quantity of our daily calorie requirements. Though the BMR is the major element in the routine calorie requirements, there are some other vital features that ascertain how many calories the person needs per day. Physical activity, lean body mass-LBM, body weight, age and gender are the vital features that influence to the metabolism or daily energy requirements. The physical activity level plays the obvious role in burning the calories on daily basis.

The individual is supposed to burn out more calories if he is more active in the daily lifestyle. But being active does not mean working out anyway. The activities such as: walking, household activities, gardening, playing with children or any sports as well as other activities that involve physical movements, burn calories. The excess body weight is also believed to need more calories for moving the body. The body weight could be distinguished in two basic categories: LBM and fats. LBM is the mass of the body minus the mass of the fat - storage energy or calories. The lean portion of the human body mass is consisted of organs, bones, muscles and other similar tissues. This is on of the most vital factors worth knowing when losing weight and living lean is concerned.

If you aim on the building and maintaining the lean muscles, you would improve your BMR, the daily calorie requirements. The more muscle tissues the person has the more calories he would need to burn even if he is just idle or resting. For instance, if the guy weighing 140 pounds and has 15 percent of body fat, he burns more calorie even sitting on the sofa, as compared to the guy who weighs 140 pounds with 25 percent body fats. in fact, the muscle tissues are really awesome, at first it needs more calories and then fat for maintaining it. Consider the different factors that fulfill the calorie requirements and thereby helping you achieve your fitness and health targets.
