Strength Training Nutrition and Diet

Introduction: Strength training is an essential part of every fitness program. If you are following a strength training program you require additional nutrition for the body. The amount of nutrition required by body depends on the intensity required in the training program you are following.

Aspects of a Strength Training Program

•  The main aspects of a strength training program are

•  The development of the muscle strength.

•  The development of flexibility in the muscles.

•  To increase the ability of the muscles.

•  To increase the endurance of the muscles etc.

In strength training program proper nutrition and diet for the body is required. A balanced diet and dietary supplements are essential for making the body fit and healthier. According to experts dietary supplements are necessary for any strength training program as the body requirement of macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins etc. increases during a strength training program.

Macronutrients : Strength training puts a lot of strain on the body muscles. So the muscles require more energy to compensate this strain factor. This supply can be maintained with the help of a proper nutritional diet. These macronutrients also help the muscles to recover from any kind of wear and tear that occurs after strength training exercises. A nutritional diet that contains 60% of the carbohydrates, 10 to 15% of the protein and less than 28 to 30 percent of fats is considered as a balanced nutritional diet for strength training program followers.

Proteins: The protein requirement of body also increases during strength training exercises as these are consumed by the muscles for their development. There are mainly 20 different types of protein that are essential for the body fitness. Out of these 20 proteins 10 proteins are generated by body and the other 10 are gained through food diet. The body stores extra amount of carbohydrates in the form of glucose and fats in the form of triglycerides. But the body is unable to store proteins in any form for further requirements. Thus protein is needed by the body on regular basis. This need of protein can be fulfilled with the help of nutritional supplements available in market. Protein can also be acquired through foods such as egg, animal meat etc. generally the protein obtained from plants are of poor quality in comparison with meat and Soya products.

Creatine Supplements: Creatine supplementation is also a part of the strength training program. Creatine generally contains nutrients that can help in generating energy which is required during strength training exercises.

Sport Drinks: The body fluid level should be maintained at an optimum level if you are following a strength training program. Sport drinks are helpful in maintaining the fluid levels of body. The body requires extra amount of sodium and calcium during a strength training program. The lack of these essential nutritive components can put adverse effect on body.

Dietary Supplements: The best way of absorbing micronutrients is through dietary supplements. Dietary supplements are generally taken if the micronutrient required by your body is not available through food diet.
